Well, since I didn’t have a blog at that time and I couldn’t post stuff anywhere at that time, I feel the need of doing it now :)

Even before I arrived in Denmark, I knew that my first trip back home would be on the 22nd of December. Although when I bought the ticket, I was supposed to fly back home with a direct flight from Copenhagen to Bucharest by Cimber Air, the route between Bucharest and Copenhagen got canceled and I ended up with an Austrian Airlines ticket. The prospect of this happening didn’t seem very nice at the beginning but it was a good experience looking back. So, let’s make a short travel back in time to those days that I will never forget for the rest of my life.

After having a sleepless night due to depression, I headed to the warehouse where I used to work for a couple of times, only this time I was sent to the Electronics department, unlike the previous times when I had worked in the Textile department. With Christmas being so close, it seems like all the Danes buy Electronic crap as gifts. That would be alright if only I would understand why people buy kitchen robots and coffee machines for Christmas. Another thing  I hated was that unlike in the Textile department, the boxes didn’t have the usual parallelepiped shapes and were extremely hard to fit on the wooden thing used for transporting the goods. Because of the sleepless night I had had, I didn’t act the way I should have had acted in the working environment by spilling on the floor all kind of microwaves and other electronic devices on the floor. The speed I was working with was also extremely unsatisfying so after some other bad happenings, I decided to go to the manager and tell him the truth since the Danes really appreciate the truth. I was surprised to find out that my departure from the warehouse was something he was looking forward for some hours before.

I think it was one week before when I scheduled a meeting downtown with one of the few friends I had had at that point, my good friend and classmate. I was looking forward to meeting her and her boyfriend and drink some Danish Boiled Mulled Wine (Glögg) and a beer. The meeting we had at the pub close to the Aarhus Theater was one of those refreshing situations you need from time to time in order to stop the fall you find yourself in. We had a wonderful time and that evening will always be in my memory as one of the best Danish experiences I have had while being in Aarhus. No bragging here, but I am either very good at choosing quality friends or I am extremely lucky with the outcome of most situations regarding the people I know. I was driven back at Skjoldhoj Kollegiet where I was able to sleep for an entire night. A long journey awaited me the following day!

21st of December 2008, 11:00
I had woken up pretty early since I was very nervous about going back to Bucharest. I knew that things had changed a lot but I just didn’t want to accept the fact and was still hoping for the same town. My hopeful expectations were to be shattered to the ground the following day. Anyway, let’s go back to the 21st of December :) I packed most of my stuff in a very organized manner, as I had never done before as I didn’t want all my clothing and Danish artefacts to be scrambled in the trolley!

By some strange combination of circumstances, I ended up having a flight to Bucharest on the exact same day with my good friend, Sidryane. I was due to leave at 10:30 from Copenhagen and arrive in Bucharest with a flight through Vienna while she had a flight scheduled for 10:15 from Copenhagen which had the same destination: Bucharest but the gateway for her was Budapest. I still make fun of her sometimes because of her affinities towards the Hungarian company Malev :D . By some other strange series of circumstances, Rares (the guy who leaves comments related to Adi Despot on this blog) also had a bus from Copenhagen to Resita, his home town, scheduled to leave at 5 in the morning. Therefore, the three of us got on the same train that left from Aarhus to Copenhagen at 23:00.

As if the trio wasn’t enough, we also met with a Moldavian friend of theirs and we had a really cosy time while in the train, laughing our asses off while making Adi Despot jokes (here is how Rares got his small obsession) and while I was trying to watch a movie. The log of those moments can be found on Sidryane’s blog, here. Ion the Moldavian and Rares the Transilvanian went off the train at the Copenhagen Train Station while me and Cristina remained on the train to head for Kastrup Lufthavn, Copenhagen’s Airport, where we arrived around 2:45 AM. We had previously made 2 Lithuanian friends (a guy and a gal) in Aarhus so we wasted time with them sometime until 5 in the morning when they went to check in for their flight to Kaunas.

I can’t really remember how time passed but I do remember I didn’t have any money left so I asked Cristina to borrow me 20kr to buy a cup of coffee from Bareso Coffee. It wasn’t long until I regretted doing this :) No, Cristina didn’t torture me to give her the money back but I seemed to have forgotten what effect the coffee may have on me :) It is possible that the following picture contains the last smile I had for the following 6 or 7 hours, frankly.

I went for the checkin sometime around 8 AM. As it was my second checkin ever, I wasn’t accustomed to SAS’s checkin machines. The result was that I forgot the identifying tape for my luggage in the machine and proceeded as a bird to dropping the luggage. I was a little frightened when I was asked about the tape at the counter since I didn’t realise that I had forgotten it. Luckily, someone brought it and the luggage was good to board on the plane!

I and Cristina went to another terminal because she also needed to check in but wait, we had a surprise! Her luggage exceeded the maximum allowed weight by more than 8 kilograms! Deep down in my heart, I knew this would happen because well, she is a girl  . Since she is on her way to becoming a very good manager, she managed to fit some clothing into my Caselogic backpack (it rules by the way) and into her hand luggage. We went outside for a short talk and I also went to the bathroom because of the coffee (guess why) and because I was nervous and we said goodbye to eachother. I went back to my terminal in order to head for the gate and I witnessed a funny thing over at the body check. The guy in front of me had a metal fork inside his backpack but he couldn’t remember where from. I’m telling you, a fork looks awesome while on X-rays! The security guard let him keep his fork in the backpack, motivating: “You never know when you are going to need one of these!” .

22nd of December 2008, 10:30
The Austrian Airlines jet, flying from Copenhagen to Vienna had its departure. I did what I usually do and I reserved a seat for the window. Although I got sick of seeing the same clouds over and over again, the airplane window seems to be very comfortable for tilting your head. While enjoying my falling-asleep, I was intrigued by my seat neighbour. She was speaking with her friend on the other row in some language I hadn’t previously heard. I just came from 4 months of an intensive international environment, hearing all kinds of language but this one didn’t seem familiar at all. I don’t usually do this but I told her: “I’m sorry for disturbing, but what the hell is this language you are using?” and she answered: “Slovakian! Hi, my name is X!”. My face got bright all of a sudden and it was only because I realised that it was such an easy language to recognise and not because of meeting some random girl on the plane. Well, we talked for a little and it seems I’m pretty hot after a sleepless night since she invited me to give her a call sometime when I’ll be in Copenhagen, even though I didn’t ask for the number nor I will ever use it. And I finally arrived in Vienna.

As I expected, the airport was full of Romanians. I can’t say I had really missed the Romanian language but it was pretty hard to imagine hearing Romanian from each corner of the room you are in. You’ve got a strange feeling: a combination of feeling like home but you also feel scared about saying anything since you are used to speaking loud and stupid cause you knew that everyone understands what you are saying. And, I used the bathroom yet again.

22nd of December 2008, sometime in the evening
I arrived in Bucharest although I can’t remember anything of the flight between Vienna and Bucharest. I remember that I fastened the seat belt and put my head on the window and then I woke up while landing at the Otopeni Airport. I literally don’t remember the take of or anything else but I guess those kind of stuff happen, don’t they? I was picked up by my brother, my sister and my friend Costin who came to pick me up with his ex-car, the long proclaimed El Diablo Amarillo, a 23 year old Dacia 1310(this is just some random pic, not the actual Diablo which is too cool to be photographed). The 4 of us (we were actually 5 but the 5th person isn’t very important lol) got in the car, Costin tried to start the engine but surprise! It didn’t work! We all got out of the oldsmobile and there we were in the middle of the airport parking, pushing the car just to get it started. It seemed like everyone else except us was laughing and after we got on the national road, the speed of the car was scaring me. I am telling you: 80km/h in the Diablo Amarillo are a lot more scary than 800km/h in a plane! We then got home and the rest of the day is some history which I may or may not present in 10 years from now when I will release an autobiographic novel or not.

Oh and I got home and went to the bathroom. I guess that makes me one of the few people who can say that they took a dump in 3 countries in the same day, right?

Those being said, if you got this far without skipping any part of the text, you are todays hero! Please excuse any typos or gramatical erros you might have encountered within the lecture! It is frightening how I remember details even after 5 or 6 months have passed from the event.
